In a groundbreaking move to promote eco-tourism and highlight Uttar Pradesh’s rich biodiversity, the state government has launched India’s first-ever jungle safari train with Vistadome coaches. This unique train connects the picturesque Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary to the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, giving nature lovers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience wildlife and lush forests up close from the comfort of a glass-roof coach.
The Vistadome train service operating currently on weekends features large glass windows and transparent roofs, offering breathtaking panoramic views of woodlands, wetlands, farmlands, and natural grasslands. The 107-kilometre journey, which takes approximately 4 hours and 25 minutes, allows tourists to witness nature in its full glory while ensuring minimal disruption to the environment. The cost? A mere ₹275 per seat, making it both accessible and affordable.
Tourism Director Prakhar Mishra stated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is determined to promote Uttar Pradesh’s forest tourism under the banner “One Destination, Three Forests,” integrating Dudhwa, Katarniaghat, and Kishanpur wildlife sanctuaries. The Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board has rolled out this service not only to showcase the state’s natural beauty but also to generate employment and boost local economies, especially by involving resort owners, homestays, and travel agents.
The train, known as the Bichia–Mailani Tourist Passenger, departs from Bichia (Bahraich) at 11:45 AM and reaches Mailani (Lakhimpur Kheri) at 4:10 PM. The return train departs Mailani at 6:05 AM and arrives at Bichia by 10:30 AM, covering nine scenic stations along the way.
Specially curated tours are already being organized for government school students under the Youth Tourism Club initiative. Additionally, the state is collaborating with social media influencers and travel bloggers to digitally promote the Vistadome safari experience.
The UP government also plans to launch subsidized travel packages from Lucknow to Katarniaghat, encouraging more people to explore this green haven. With plans to expand service throughout the week based on growing demand, the Vistadome coach project is not just a train journey it’s a step towards ‘Green Uttar Pradesh’, blending conservation with tourism and economic growth in the most sustainable way.
