Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party and Member of Parliament, has raised serious concerns over what he described as the Indian government’s continued silence on recent United States-Israel military actions that he said are occurring close to India’s strategic sphere, extending toward the Indian Ocean. In a strongly worded statement to Arabian Times, Yadav said the situation is worrying for the people of India, particularly because of the absence of a clear response from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
He said, the developments in the region have significant geopolitical implications, and the public deserves to know the government’s position. He questioned whether the government’s silence should simply be interpreted as a lack of response or as hesitation driven by fear. Yadav remarked that the government’s reluctance to speak has raised doubts among citizens, who are wondering what factors may be preventing the leadership from addressing the issue openly.
The Samajwadi Party leader emphasised that, as an international matter with potential security implications, it is the collective responsibility of the central government, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Ministry of Defence to present India’s official stand. However, he noted that despite several days passing since the developments began, there has been no clear statement from the authorities.
Yadav said this prolonged silence has compelled opposition leaders to speak out on the matter. He urged the government to step forward during what he described as a critical time and reassure citizens that India’s land, sea, and air boundaries are secure. Expressing concern over the public mood, Yadav said many people are anxious about the government’s approach. “If the government is not even speaking about the issue, people are naturally wondering what action it will take,” he suggested.
The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh also accused the BJP government of attempting to divert attention from its shortcomings by adopting an unclear policy approach. He alleged that controversial topics might be raised during the upcoming parliamentary session to shift focus away from serious questions about governance and national security. Yadav argued that such tactics would prevent meaningful discussion about the government’s performance and responsibilities during a sensitive international situation.
He stressed that transparency and accountability are essential, especially when global developments could affect India’s strategic interests. Yadav warned that the country appears to be going through what he called a period of “governmental vacuum.” According to him, the lack of clear communication has led many citizens to feel that leadership is absent at a time when decisive direction is most needed. He urged the government to break its silence, present a clear policy position, and take visible steps to reassure the public that India’s security and national interests remain fully protected.
