The Trident Hotel in Nariman Point, Mumbai, was abuzz with celebration on the evening of February 24th as the 64th National Day and the 34th Liberation Day of the State of Kuwait were commemorated with grandeur. The event witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, and the Counselor of Kuwait, Emad Al Kahraz, and the Chief Guest, Manisha Patankar-Mhaiskar, Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Protocol Officer, Government of Maharashtra.

Emad Al Kahraz, in his address, expressed his deep honor in celebrating this auspicious occasion. He emphasized that the dual anniversaries not only reflect on Kuwait’s past but also reaffirm the nation’s commitment to a shared future rooted in resilience, unity, and progress. He reminded the audience of the sacrifices made, the achievements realized, and the aspirations that continue to guide Kuwait forward.

A key highlight of his speech was the strong relationship between Kuwait and India, built on a foundation of historical ties, mutual respect, and shared aspirations. He acknowledged Mumbai’s vital role as a vibrant hub of commerce and culture, fostering bilateral relations for centuries. Historically, Mumbai served as a key gateway for Kuwaiti merchants, who exchanged pearls and dates for Indian spices, textiles, wood, and other goods. This long-standing commercial bond laid the groundwork for a lasting friendship between the two nations.

Emad Al Kahraz highlighted Mumbai’s importance as a financial and shipping center, supporting Kuwaiti business ventures in India and further solidifying the economic and social ties between the two countries. He expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for Mumbai’s contributions in nurturing this partnership, underscoring how these interactions extend beyond commerce and diplomacy to encompass cultural exchanges and shared experiences.
The Counselor also reflected on the recent State visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kuwait in December 2024. This visit, he noted, marked a significant milestone in Kuwait-India relations, with the signing of eight new agreements across crucial sectors such as trade, energy, healthcare, and technology. These agreements brought the total to 35, showcasing both nations’ dedication to growth and collaboration.
Economically, the relationship between Kuwait and India continues to flourish, with bilateral trade surpassing $10 billion annually. Emad Al Kahraz expressed optimism about the collective ambition of both countries to achieve $15 billion in trade in the near future. However, he emphasized that beyond the impressive numbers, it is the spirit of cooperation, trust, and innovation that truly defines the alliance between Kuwait and India.
He extended heartfelt gratitude to all the esteemed partners and friends who have continuously supported and strengthened Kuwait-India relations. A special mention was given to Manisha Patankar-Mhaiskar for her gracious presence, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations. In a touching moment, Emad Al Kahraz also expressed his appreciation for his wife and his diligent office team for their invaluable efforts in organizing the event.
Their dedication behind the scenes, he noted, made the evening’s celebration truly memorable. The celebration served not only as a reflection of Kuwait’s rich history but also as a pledge to build a brighter future. With shared prosperity, stability, and mutual respect at the heart of their alliance, Kuwait and India look forward to strengthening their bonds and continuing their journey of collaboration and friendship.
