In a democracy, the power of words holds immense influence—especially when spoken by those in high public office. Recently, a deeply inappropriate remark made by the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh about the “DNA of socialists” has sparked widespread outrage and concern. While steps have been taken to address the fallout, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for dignity, responsibility, and restraint in political discourse. It is not merely a matter of political rivalry but one of moral integrity, cultural sensitivity, and the preservation of values that define a healthy, respectful, and inclusive democracy.

Taking cognizance of the comment made by the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh regarding the DNA of socialists, a strong response has emerged at the party level. Leaders within the party have been instructed to calmly explain to those who angrily reacted to such an “extremely indecent” remark. The assurance given by the Deputy CM that such statements will not be repeated in the future is appreciated. However, it is equally important that the person he addressed also reflects on the series of controversial statements made in recent times. While the tone of such statements may appear acceptable to the individual on a personal level, they fall short of the standards of dignity and decency expected from someone in a high public office.

As the state’s Health Minister, there is a heightened responsibility to uphold respectful conduct. Making personal remarks about someone’s DNA is not only a personal attack, but also an affront to one’s ancestral identity, which traces back generations. It is widely known that members of the Yaduvansh trace their lineage to Lord Krishna a revered figure in Indian culture. Therefore, any attack on their DNA is not merely political; it strikes a religious and cultural chord as well. Even if the intention was not to offend religious sentiments, such words may be misinterpreted by ordinary believers of any faith, thereby sparking unnecessary unrest.

In such a situation, it becomes essential to remember that political discourse should never overshadow basic human decency. A heartfelt apology, even if unspoken but realized within, can help restore the values that once defined a leader. If the Health Minister reflects impartially on his past words and actions, he may recognize that such bitterness was never part of his earlier political journey. Political ambition should not come at the cost of losing one’s moral compass or verbal restraint.

Let this controversy serve as a closure to the matter. In the greater interest of public service, it is time to move away from petty and provocative politics. There is little time and much to do for the welfare of people. The purity of politics can only be preserved by distancing oneself from negativity and recommitting to the principles of constructive leadership. The path of positive politics is not only noble but necessary.
