MOHAMMAD TARIQUE SALEEM FROM KUWAIT

On November 29, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held a press conference at the Media Centre in Kuwait, addressing key developments and initiatives marking the council’s efforts towards regional unity and cooperation. Al-Budaiwi emphasized the GCC’s pivotal role in fostering economic and political collaboration among its member states—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE while highlighting ongoing projects aimed at bolstering Gulf integration.

The press conference underscored the achievements of the GCC, which was founded in 1981 with the goal of unifying Gulf nations to tackle shared challenges. Al-Budaiwi outlined the council’s current projects that aim to strengthen ties between member states and global partners. These initiatives reflect the GCC’s focus on addressing evolving geopolitical challenges and enhancing regional stability. The Secretary-General also spotlighted the council’s proactive approach to creating economic opportunities, boosting energy cooperation, and enhancing digital innovation across member countries

Jassim Al-Budaiwi’s appointment as the GCC Secretary-General earlier this year marked a significant moment in the council’s history. A seasoned diplomat, he has previously held prominent positions, including Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United States and representative to NATO and the European Union. His extensive experience positions him as a key figure in advancing the council’s mission of fostering deeper integration among Gulf nations while strengthening their global partnerships.

The event also served as a platform to discuss the council’s vision for sustainable development, regional security, and socio-economic advancements. Al-Budaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s commitment to tackling climate change and supporting international efforts to ensure a stable energy transition—a priority for Gulf countries that are heavily invested in energy production

By hosting this press conference in Kuwait, the GCC highlighted the country’s longstanding role in promoting Gulf unity and its commitment to hosting collaborative discussions that shape the council’s future trajectory. The forum provided a glimpse into the GCC’s dedication to addressing pressing global issues while maintaining a focus on the prosperity and well-being of its member states.
