On April 14, 2025, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik arrived in Amsterdam on a three-day state visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, marking a significant chapter in the long-standing and friendly ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the Netherlands. The visit reflects the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries and opens the door for deeper cooperation in various fields, including trade, development, and cultural exchange.
As the Royal aircraft carrying His Majesty entered Dutch airspace, it was welcomed with an extraordinary gesture of honor. Military aircraft from the Royal Netherlands Air Force escorted the plane, symbolizing the Netherlands’ deep respect and warm reception for the Sultan. This rare and distinguished escort highlighted the importance the Dutch government places on this visit and the esteemed status of His Majesty.
Upon landing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, His Majesty the Sultan was greeted with a ceremonious welcome. At the foot of the aircraft ramp, he was received by Rear Admiral Ludger Brummelaar, Chief of the Military House of the King, along with Reinette Klever, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation. Several senior Dutch officials and members of the Omani embassy in the Netherlands were also present to welcome His Majesty. Their presence underscored the importance of this state visit in enhancing bilateral relations.
Following the warm reception, His Majesty proceeded toward the main vehicle through an elegant passage flanked by the Royal Guard of Honour of the Netherlands. The impressive formation, dressed in ceremonial attire, paid tribute to the Sultan, further reflecting the depth of diplomatic protocol and friendship extended by the Dutch Kingdom.
The Sultan’s motorcade, led by a procession of police motorcycles, then departed from the airport en route to his official residence during the visit – the Royal Palace in Amsterdam. The motorcade attracted the attention of onlookers and symbolized the high regard and respect accorded to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik by the Dutch authorities.
King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands is scheduled to officially receive His Majesty at a formal ceremony, which will take place at the Royal Palace. This event is expected to be one of the key highlights of the visit, featuring military honors, the national anthems of both countries, and high-level discussions aimed at boosting cooperation in fields such as economy, renewable energy, water management, education, and culture.
