The Iranian Foreign Ministry recently released a fact sheet detailing the United States’ history of hostile actions against the Islamic Republic, denouncing Washington’s hypocritical approach, according to Press TV. The document outlined numerous violations by the U.S., particularly its reinstatement of the “maximum pressure” policy and its contradictory stance on nuclear negotiations.
The fact sheet highlighted how Washington’s adversarial policies towards Iran have persisted over time. The U.S. first implemented its “maximum pressure” campaign under Donald Trump’s administration, reintroducing harsh sanctions on Iran. On February 3, Trump, in his current leadership role, signed a new “Presidential National Security Memorandum,” intensifying economic and political pressure against Tehran. The Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized that even after Trump’s initial departure, the Biden administration continued the policy by maintaining and expanding sanctions. The ministry reaffirmed Iran’s resistance against such coercive measures, emphasizing that no nation should be subjected to illegal economic pressure.
The document criticized the U.S. for advocating negotiations while simultaneously imposing sanctions. Iran asserted that it has always supported diplomacy in good faith, yet it has faced continuous pressure and intimidation tactics, which have historically proven ineffective against Tehran. The ministry warned that Washington’s contradictory stance fosters distrust and undermines diplomatic efforts, making meaningful engagement difficult. The fact sheet also recounted Washington’s breach of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), an agreement endorsed by the United Nations Security Council.
The Trump administration unilaterally withdrew from the accord in 2018 despite Iran’s full compliance, as verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Since then, the U.S. has imposed additional sanctions, blocking efforts to revive the deal. The document accused Washington of pretending to seek JCPOA reinstatement while deliberately obstructing progress through pretexts and delaying tactics.
The fact sheet provided a historical overview of American aggression against Iran, including the 1953 CIA-orchestrated coup, military support for Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War, freezing of Iranian assets, and military provocations. It also referenced the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani in 2020 and U.S. complicity in Israel’s assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists. The ministry challenged U.S. claims that Iran sponsors terrorism, instead asserting that Iran has been a primary victim of terrorism.
Iranian forces have played a key role in combating groups like Daesh (ISIS), which the U.S. has been accused of indirectly supporting to advance geopolitical interests. Additionally, Iran condemned Washington’s branding of regional resistance groups as terrorists, arguing that these groups are fighting for liberation from Israeli occupation. The ministry accused the U.S. of shielding Israel from accountability while falsely portraying Iran as a regional destabilizer.
The document condemned U.S. human rights violations, citing Washington’s unwavering support for Israeli atrocities in Gaza and its economic sanctions, which have inflicted suffering on the Iranian population. It also noted how U.S. sanctions worsened humanitarian conditions in Iran, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, contradicting its purported concern for human rights. Despite U.S. hostility, Iran remains committed to diplomacy based on “dignity, wisdom, and expediency,” rejecting negotiations under coercion. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has reiterated that Iran will not engage in talks under pressure.
However, Tehran remains open to diplomatic solutions that safeguard its national interests. The ministry also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to regional stability and sovereignty, warning that any aggression against its security would be met with a decisive response. Moreover, it reiterated that Iran has never sought nuclear weapons, citing Ayatollah Khamenei’s binding fatwa prohibiting their development. Finally, the fact sheet called on the U.S., the only nation to have ever used nuclear weapons, to cease using the nuclear issue as an excuse for confrontation and adopt a more just and rational approach towards Iran.
