Kuwait is making significant strides in enhancing its tourism sector as part of a broader national vision for economic diversification and cultural preservation. Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi recently reaffirmed the country’s growing interest in transforming its tourism landscape, stressing its importance in supporting the national economy and safeguarding Kuwait’s unique cultural identity.
Speaking to Al-Rai daily, Al-Mutairi highlighted the collaborative efforts underway among government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and civil society organizations to promote Kuwait as a vibrant destination. These efforts aim to spotlight the country’s rich cultural heritage, environmental beauty, and diverse tourism offerings.
A major milestone in this direction is the launch of the “Visit Kuwait” platform, a national digital initiative designed to unify all tourism-related communication and activities. This platform seeks to offer an integrated and seamless tourism experience, in line with the strategic goals of Kuwait Vision 2035. Al-Mutairi described the initiative as a key step toward building modern tourism infrastructure through public-private partnerships, facilitating sustainable tourism development across the country.
In addition to domestic efforts, Kuwait is expanding its presence on the international tourism stage. As the current president of the United Nations Tourism Organization’s Regional Committee for the Middle East, Kuwait is preparing to host the committee’s 52nd session in early 2026. The minister emphasized that this event will serve as a valuable opportunity for Kuwait to enhance regional cooperation, share successful practices, and contribute to shaping the future of tourism in the Arab world.
Al-Mutairi also revealed plans for Kuwait’s participation in Expo Osaka 2025. The country will be represented through a comprehensive pavilion that reflects its national identity, culture, and forward-looking aspirations. Drawing on the success of Expo 2020, the minister assured that the same approach—marked by transparent processes, professional standards, and good governance—will be upheld. The pavilion will showcase Kuwait’s achievements in key areas such as sustainability, innovation, education, culture, and economic development.
Cultural initiatives also remain a cornerstone of Kuwait’s national agenda. Al-Mutairi spoke about the upcoming Kuwait International Book Fair, which this year will see participation from 33 countries—the highest in its history. Held under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah, the event will feature a unique educational initiative titled “I Am the Author.” This interactive program invites children and young adults to write, design, and print their own books, encouraging creativity and a passion for literature among Kuwait’s youth.
The minister also discussed the grand closing ceremony for Kuwait’s designation as the Capital of Arab Media and Culture in 2025. Scheduled to align with Kuwait’s national celebrations in February, the event is expected to be a major cultural occasion. Al-Mutairi described it as an integrated celebration that will highlight Kuwait’s enduring role as a leader in the Arab cultural and media landscape. Through these ambitious initiatives, Kuwait is signaling a strong commitment to tourism, youth empowerment, and cultural development—an agenda that positions the nation firmly on the path toward a vibrant and diversified future.
