The election of the Kuwaiti candidate reflects the confidence Kuwait enjoys in Arab joint action, thanks to its strong human rights record, commitment to the Arab Charter, and timely report submissions, said Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi. Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi, announced that Kuwait’s candidate has been elected to the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee for a four-year term, Arabic daily Al Jarida reported.

Al-Mutairi told KUNA that the voting took place during a meeting at the Arab League’s General Secretariat headquarters, attended by the permanent delegates of Arab member states, along with Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector, Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh. The meeting was dedicated to electing four candidates from Arab countries to serve on the committee for the next four years.

Al-Mutairi stressed that the election of the Kuwaiti candidate reflects the confidence Kuwait enjoys within the framework of joint Arab action, citing recognition of its human rights record, its commitment to implementing the Arab Charter on Human Rights, and the timely submission of its periodic reports. He added that Kuwait’s candidate received the second-highest number of votes, while candidates from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Oman were also elected. The Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee is one of four mechanisms under the Arab human rights system affiliated with the League of Arab States.
