The Ministry of Health on recently said that Kuwait is among the earliest countries to introduce robotic surgery into its healthcare system, adopting the technology across several specialized fields, including endocrine surgery. This was announced by Health Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi during the opening of the First Kuwaiti Forum for Endocrine Surgery, representing Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi.

The forum brings together a distinguished group of surgeons and specialists from Kuwait and abroad. Dr. Al-Mutairi stated that the introduction of robotic surgery reflects the Ministry’s commitment to investing in advanced medical technologies that enhance service quality, diagnostic precision and patient safety. He emphasized that endocrine surgery is one of the most delicate medical specialties, requiring both exceptional surgical skill and high human responsibility.
“Every operation in this field represents a pivotal moment in a patient’s life, restoring health and balance, and reflecting the dedication of a harmonious medical team united by one goal, improving quality of life,” he said. The undersecretary disclosed that the Ministry has established specialized endocrine surgery units at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, and Al-Amiri Hospital, with plans to expand these units across all public hospitals.
He highlighted that progress in the field extends beyond technology to investment in national medical talent. The Ministry, he said, has prioritized supporting endocrine and robotic surgery, promoting scientific research, and strengthening clinical applications. This includes the adoption of endoscopic and remote robotic surgery and the recent launch of a fellowship program in endocrine surgery, a national platform designed to prepare specialized medical cadres.
Dr. Al-Mutairi noted that the forum serves as a vital scientific meeting point where traditional, endoscopic and robotic surgical practices merge with the latest global advancements. He pointed to the three-day advanced surgical workshop that preceded the forum, during which high-quality robotic surgeries were performed by leading Kuwaiti and international surgeons, as “the best evidence of our national teams’ ability to meet global standards.”
For his part, Conference Chairman Dr. Ali Al-Sayed said the forum is the first event in Kuwait dedicated entirely to endocrine surgery and its supporting specialties. It features top surgeons and consultants from GCC countries, South Korea, and Kuwait. He stressed that the forum is more than a scientific gathering, it reflects a deep commitment to Kuwait’s medical and humanitarian mission.
“Here, science meets experience, and research meets practice, within an environment that values innovation and continuous development,” he said. Dr. Al-Sayed added that the forum’s theme, “Together… We Shape the Future of Endocrine Surgery,” embodies the belief that teamwork in a supportive scientific environment is the best path toward overcoming challenges, achieving better patient outcomes, and enhancing training for surgeons and residents in general and specialized programs.
