Malaysia’s clear and consistent government policies, reinforced by ongoing political stability, are key factors driving foreign investor confidence, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Speaking to the Malaysian diaspora in Geneva on Sunday, he emphasised the significance of frameworks like the Madani Economy, the 12th Malaysia Plan, the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). These well-structured policies, Fahmi noted, send a strong signal to investors that Malaysia offers predictability and long-term vision.
“These policies provide clarity and assurance to investors. They trust that such policies won’t be changed arbitrarily,” he said. Supporting his statement with data, Fahmi cited figures from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). According to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), approved investments in Q1 2025 reached RM89.8 billion, a 3.7% increase compared to the previous year, despite global uncertainties.
The gathering, held at Rumah Malaysia in Geneva, brought together around 50 Malaysians, including students, professionals, and staff from the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations. Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Datuk Nadzirah Osman, also attended. Fahmi also highlighted Malaysia’s achievements in the communications sector, saying, “Malaysia is among the top 10 countries in the world with the cheapest internet and has the second fastest internet speed in Asia-Pacific after South Korea.”
Nadzirah praised the event as an effective platform for Malaysians abroad to connect with national leadership. “This programme allows the Malaysians in Geneva to share views with the minister and receive first-hand updates on current developments back home,” she said. Participants appreciated the open dialogue.
Syakira Ramli, President of the Malaysian Association of Geneva, said the session sparked discussions on how Malaysia could learn from Switzerland in areas like governance and infrastructure. Malvyn Tan of IATA also welcomed the minister’s openness, saying, “Fahmi made us feel comfortable to share our views and experiences.” Fahmi is currently leading Malaysia’s delegation to the World Summit on the Information Society+20 (WSIS+20), held from July 7 to 11, reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to an inclusive and sustainable digital future aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
