Samajwadi Party National President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on May 24 mounted a strong political attack on the BJP government, alleging that its economic policies have placed an unbearable burden on ordinary citizens. Speaking at the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow, he questioned the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices and held the ruling party accountable for what he described as a worsening economic situation after more than a decade in power.
Addressing party leaders and workers from various districts, Akhilesh Yadav questioned the BJP government over the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices and asked who would take responsibility for the state of the economy after more than a decade in power. He alleged that the BJP government had “pushed Uttar Pradesh into darkness” and claimed that the state is struggling with mounting problems under the present administration.

The Samajwadi Party chief said the BJP had failed to fulfill the promises it made to the public and accused the ruling party of spreading division and hatred in society for political gain. He particularly highlighted the condition of the PDA community, saying that the BJP government had done the greatest injustice to them during its two consecutive terms in office. According to him, a welfare state can function effectively only under honest leadership, something he believes is missing in the current government.
Looking ahead to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Akhilesh Yadav expressed confidence in the Samajwadi Party’s prospects. He said the party narrowly missed forming the government in 2022 and stressed that workers must leave no stone unturned in the next election. Referring to the 2024 Lok Sabha election results, he said the public mood is changing and asserted that PDA would become the “guarantee of victory” for the Samajwadi Party in 2027. He also promised justice, dignity and respect for the oppressed and marginalized sections of society if the party returns to power.

Yadav further accused the BJP of indulging in “conspiracy politics” against the Samajwadi Party and making baseless allegations against its leadership. He claimed that the BJP has become frustrated following setbacks in the Lok Sabha elections. Stressing the importance of Uttar Pradesh in national politics, he said the responsibility of “saving the country” lies with the state. He also raised concerns over the ongoing electricity crisis in Uttar Pradesh.
He said people are facing severe hardship due to unannounced power cuts during the scorching summer heat. Accusing the BJP government of neglecting the power sector, he claimed that no major power infrastructure had been added in the last ten years and alleged that the government only increased electricity bills without boosting production. He asserted that much of the electricity currently being supplied comes from projects established during the Samajwadi Party government
