In an era when politics is increasingly defined by sharp divisions and ideological battles, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav continues to project himself as a leader who places humanity above political rivalry. Widely regarded by his supporters as a secular and inclusive politician, Akhilesh Yadav has consistently carried forward the political and social legacy of his late father, Mulayam Singh Yadav. His recent visit to the residence of senior BJP leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi in Prayagraj, following the demise of her husband Puran Chandra Joshi, reflected a message of compassion beyond party lines. The gesture once again highlighted his attempt to present politics rooted in respect, civility, and social harmony.

A leader with a difference, Akhilesh Yadav is often regarded by his supporters as a truly secular politician whose politics rises above caste and religious boundaries. Following the political and social values of his late father Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav has consistently projected himself as a leader who respects all religions and communities alike. His recent visit to the residence of senior BJP leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi after the demise of her husband, late Puran Chandra Joshi, once again highlighted his message of humanity beyond political lines.

The late Puran Chandra Joshi was remembered as an outstanding engineer, skilled administrator, and progressive thinker. Akhilesh Yadav personally visited the family’s home in Prayagraj to pay his tributes and offer condolences. The gesture drew attention as it reflected political civility at a time when Indian politics is often marked by sharp divisions and bitter rivalries.
After paying homage, Akhilesh Yadav addressed the media and launched a strong attack on the BJP government over the country’s economic condition. He said that the BJP itself had become a crisis for India’s economy and claimed that the Prime Minister’s recent appeals reflected the party’s political decline. “Those who lost in the Lok Sabha elections will also lose in this appeal,” he remarked.
Yadav accused the BJP government of destroying the economy despite making tall claims over the past several years. He questioned why the economy had weakened so badly despite the BJP remaining in power at the Centre for the last 12 years. “Why has the economy derailed? Why does the Prime Minister and the government now need to make such appeals before the public?” he asked while speaking to reporters in Prayagraj on May 12.
The Samajwadi Party chief also targeted the BJP over the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in 2023. According to him, the BJP was misleading the public despite the bill already becoming law. He alleged that the ruling party lacked genuine intent to provide reservation for women and claimed that political calculations forced the government to issue its notification later. He criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for bringing discussions on a bill that had already been passed by Parliament, calling it a sign of the BJP’s political weakening.
Akhilesh Yadav further said that farmers’ incomes had not doubled and that inflation and unemployment were at their peak. He stated that the BJP itself had become a challenge for the nation. Referring to reports and photographs linked to an accused in the murder case involving the personal secretary of Mamata Banerjee, he alleged that several BJP leaders had connections with the accused. He also referred to an alleged ₹100 crore scam in Jhansi involving a person said to be close to senior BJP leaders.
Political observers believe that Akhilesh Yadav’s visit to the residence of a BJP leader during a moment of personal grief carried a larger political and social message. At a time when political polarization dominates public discourse, the Samajwadi Party chief attempted to present himself as a leader who values human relationships above political rivalry, reinforcing the image of a politician who seeks to connect with people across caste, creed, and religion.
