Samajwadi Party (SP) National President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government during a one-day visit to Bidhuna in Auraiya district on Sunday, accusing it of governing outside the bounds of the Constitution and law. Speaking to reporters, Yadav said the BJP government had “completely failed” on multiple fronts, citing its inability to generate employment, control inflation, or attract investment. He linked the state’s economic troubles to unrest, alleging that the demolition of a mosque in Saharanpur was connected to the lack of incoming investment.
Yadav was particularly critical of the manner in which the mosque was demolished, questioning why authorities acted within twelve hours rather than allowing the matter to be pursued through the High Court or Supreme Court. He argued that denying the affected parties the opportunity to seek judicial recourse amounted to a denial of justice, and claimed the demolition had left people distressed into silence, sentiment he said would eventually translate into opposition to what he called the “communal” BJP.
Turning to religious harmony, Yadav invoked the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), contrasting the Prime Minister’s invocation of the phrase abroad with what he described as the BJP’s role in disturbing communal harmony domestically. He asserted that no genuine Hindu or true sanyasi would insult another religion or hurt others’ sentiments. On infrastructure and governance, Yadav alleged that expressways were deteriorating, roads were pothole-ridden, and corruption had reached its peak, with claims of commissions running as high as 60 percent. He also accused police of practicing selective justice based on bribery.
Addressing economic data, Yadav questioned the accuracy of official GDP figures, pointing to unemployment, expensive fuel, alleged adulteration of petrol, and rising sugar prices as evidence that the government’s growth figures could not be trusted, suggesting actual GDP growth was effectively “zero.” Responding to a question about BJP state in-charge Vinod Tawde, Yadav made pointed remarks referencing a video involving Tawde that has been circulating, without elaborating on its contents, while also alleging that certain political parties had received unexplained large sums of money.
Yadav further alleged rising crimes against women under the BJP government, referenced a case of gold seizure in Tal village he claimed was not fully disclosed, and criticized the state government for shutting down primary schools, which he said deprived poor children of education, invoking Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s emphasis on education for social progress. He also warned the BJP against misusing artificial intelligence to spread misinformation, stating that if the BJP created one manipulated video, the opposition would respond with four, and cautioned that flinging mud at rivals would soil the thrower first. Yadav expressed confidence that the SP-led alliance was set to form the next government in Uttar Pradesh, claiming the BJP government had fewer than 100 days left in office.
