The Minister of Information and Culture, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Arabian Gulf Cup Football (Gulf Zain 26), Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, unveiled a special initiative to honor the “legends” of Gulf football at the tournament’s final match on 4 January, at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium.
Al-Mutairi emphasized that this honor is part of ongoing efforts to celebrate the rich football legacy in the region, promote sportsmanship among Gulf nations, and recognize the achievements of the legendary players who have brought glory to Gulf football and played a key role in elevating the status of Gulf championships.
Al-Mutairi further added that this initiative reflects the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad, His Highness Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah, who are consistently committed to supporting sports and athletes.
Al-Mutairi stated that this sponsorship also reflects a strong commitment to encouraging initiatives that celebrate both national and regional achievements, embodying the leadership’s vision to elevate the role of sports as a key driver in developing societies and fostering connections between peoples.
Furthermore, Al-Mutairi explained that the football associations of the participating countries were approached to nominate one of their legends who had a significant impact on the history of the game, leaving lasting marks on Gulf football and inspiring future generations of players. These football icons will be honored in a special ceremony during the tournament’s final.
Al-Mutairi stated that through this honor, Kuwait aims to highlight the achievements of these great players who brought glory to Gulf football and helped elevate the sport in the hearts of the people. He added that the recognition serves as a message of gratitude and appreciation for their contributions to the growth of Gulf sports.
Significantly, Al-Mutairi highlighted that the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Championships, with their rich history, are not merely a sporting event but also a symbol of Gulf unity and cooperation. He stressed the significance of honoring those who have made valuable contributions to sports in the region.
