Kuwait has opened a new chapter in its military history with the official commissioning of the first group of female university graduates as officers in the Kuwaiti Army. The landmark development reflects the country’s evolving approach to national service and signals a broader commitment to expanding opportunities for women in leadership roles. The newly appointed officers formally entered military service after taking the legal oath during an official ceremony held following the issuance of an Amiri decree authorizing their appointments.
The event was attended by senior military officials and marked a significant moment for the Armed Forces and the nation as a whole. Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah presented the graduates with their official ranks after the Amiri decree was read aloud. Addressing the new officers, he described the trust placed in them by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as both an honor and a profound national responsibility.

He emphasized that the inclusion of women officers represents a strategic step toward strengthening the capabilities of the Kuwaiti military by drawing on the talents and expertise of qualified citizens. According to the minister, the appointment of female officers is not only a recognition of the achievements of Kuwaiti women but also a reflection of the Armed Forces’ commitment to modernization and institutional development.
Sheikh Abdullah highlighted that the newly commissioned officers would serve as a valuable addition to the military establishment, contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of various duties and responsibilities across the defense sector. Encouraging the graduates to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, the defense minister urged them to remain dedicated to continuous learning and the development of their scientific and practical skills while carrying out their duties in service of the nation.
The ceremony was attended by Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Shuraian, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Major General Pilot Sabah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and several senior military commanders. The commissioning of Kuwait’s first female army officers marks a transformative moment in the country’s military evolution. Beyond its symbolic importance, the move underscores Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to expand women’s participation in national institutions and harness their potential in shaping the country’s future security and development.
