Oman and Iran held high-level diplomatic discussions focused on regional cooperation and maritime security during a meeting in Muscat between Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister, and Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs. Gharibabadi, who is visiting the Sultanate of Oman along with a diplomatic and legal delegation, delivered a verbal message from Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi to the Omani Foreign Minister. The message reflected the continuing consultation and strong cooperation between the two neighboring countries across various sectors.

The discussions also touched upon the ongoing Iranian-US talks, which are being mediated by Pakistan, and highlighted efforts being made to ensure the success of the dialogue process. Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining communication and diplomacy to support regional stability and peaceful engagement. A key focus of the meeting was the issue of freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes. The message conveyed Iran and Oman’s shared interest in ensuring the uninterrupted flow of international shipping and safeguarding trade routes in the region.

Following the bilateral meeting, the two sides held an expanded session to discuss principles governing freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law. Officials exchanged views on recent regional developments and explored ways to strengthen capabilities that would enhance the safety and security of maritime traffic, trade movement, and global supply chains. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of Oman’s Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, along with senior officials from both Oman and Iran. The discussions reflected the ongoing efforts of both countries to promote regional cooperation, maritime stability, and constructive diplomatic engagement amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
