Muscat: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) on Sunday received a high-level delegation of representatives from Indonesian companies operating in the health sector. The visit marked an important step towards exploring new avenues of bilateral cooperation and investment, particularly in medical tourism and medical sciences.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to develop the medical tourism industry and promote related industries and services. Officials reviewed the significant potential of the health sector for establishing commercial and investment partnerships across multiple specialised fields. These included specialised medical services, preventive medicine, genetic medicine, medical research and applications, as well as the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products, medical supplies and devices. The establishment of wellness and hospitalisation centres was also highlighted as a key area of mutual interest.
The discussions further focused on creating integrated systems to support medical tourism. Participants examined collaboration in diagnosis and treatment services, health insurance, travel and tourism agencies, hotels and hospitality, transport, and logistical services that facilitate the smooth movement of patients. Opportunities to leverage advanced technologies available in health institutions of both countries were also explored in detail.
Special attention was given to Oman’s strategic advantages. The Sultanate’s unique geographical location along major regional and international routes was emphasised as a strong asset. This positioning offers convenient access to markets across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, as well as Arab and African countries, making it an attractive hub for medical tourism and related investments.
The Indonesian delegation expressed keen interest in tapping into Oman’s growing healthcare infrastructure and business-friendly environment. OCCI representatives, in turn, highlighted the opportunities available for Indonesian companies to invest and partner with local entities in the health sector.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides agreeing to continue dialogue and identify concrete projects that could strengthen economic and healthcare ties between Oman and Indonesia. Officials noted that such collaborations would not only boost medical tourism but also contribute to the overall development of healthcare services and related industries in both nations.
