In a fresh diplomatic effort aimed at easing regional tensions, Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Iraq, spoke over the phone on April 8, 2026, with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, to discuss ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire and reduce rising tensions in the region. The conversation reflected growing concern over the current situation and the urgent need for diplomacy to take center stage.

Fuad Hussein appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in helping create an atmosphere suitable for dialogue and negotiations. He praised Islamabad for playing what he described as a “positive and constructive role” in encouraging understanding between the concerned sides. According to diplomatic sources, the Iraqi minister stressed that the coming days would be extremely important for peace efforts. He highlighted the need for stronger coordination and continuous communication to ensure that no political or security hurdles derail the process of preparing for negotiations.

Both leaders agreed that dialogue remains the only practical path toward de-escalation and long-term stability. The phone call also underlined the importance of regional countries working together to prevent further escalation and support peaceful solutions instead of conflict. Pakistan’s involvement in facilitating diplomatic understandings has drawn attention at a time when several countries are seeking ways to calm tensions through negotiations rather than confrontation. Iraq, too, has been actively encouraging diplomatic engagement and regional cooperation to avoid instability.

The discussion between the two foreign ministers signals a shared commitment by Baghdad and Islamabad to support peace initiatives and maintain diplomatic momentum. Analysts believe that such coordinated efforts among regional players could help build trust between conflicting sides and open the door for broader international mediation in the near future. As uncertainty continues in the region, diplomatic contacts like these are being viewed as an important step toward restoring calm and creating hope for a lasting ceasefire.
