Samajwadi Party national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the government of avoiding parliamentary discussion on issues concerning students, examinations and alleged irregularities involving offerings at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Speaking to the media in the Parliament complex, Yadav alleged that “wealth has become the religion of the BJP” and questioned why the government was unwilling to respond to allegations surrounding the alleged theft of offerings made at the Ram temple. He said the Opposition wanted a detailed discussion on the matter, but the government was allegedly running away from it.

Yadav sought to connect the issues of education and examinations with the controversy surrounding temple offerings in Ayodhya. According to him, both matters deserve serious scrutiny and accountability. He also demanded an explanation from the government over the alleged “brutality” faced by students in Delhi.

“The Opposition wants discussion, but the government does not want discussion,” Yadav said, alleging that people associated with the BJP and “underground, unregistered” groups had links to both the education-examination issue and the alleged irregularities concerning temple offerings. He claimed that the activities were being operated from the same place and called for an investigation.

Referring to the allegations concerning the handling of offerings in Ayodhya, Yadav said people had witnessed what he described as the “loot of Ram’s wealth.” He alleged that money was taken out in sacks and claimed that cash was also recovered from containers. He further alleged that influential people were involved and demanded that the matter be thoroughly investigated.

Yadav also broadened his criticism to issues affecting different sections of society. He accused the BJP government of failing various groups, alleging that reservations were being undermined, young people were struggling to find jobs and employment, and farmers were not receiving remunerative prices for their crops. Expressing concern over the treatment of students in Delhi, Yadav alleged that students had faced severe police action, including pellet guns, batons and tear gas.

He further claimed that authorities were collecting data about students who had travelled to Delhi and expressed apprehension that they could face further harassment. Yadav said the government must answer these questions instead of avoiding debate. His remarks have added political pressure around issues of education, youth employment, examinations and the alleged irregularities involving temple offerings, all of which the Opposition wants brought into public and parliamentary discussion.
