Upon the sacred occasion of Independence Day in Lucknow, the august programme “One Evening Dedicated to the Valiant Martyrs” was convened with grandeur at the Shahid Smarak under the joint aegis of the Jashn-e-Azadi Trust and the Uttar Pradesh District Recognised Journalists Association. Fourscore candles were kindled and floral tributes deposited before the portraits of the fallen, invoking deep emotive homage. As the flames irradiated the memorial, the atmosphere became suffused with nationalist fervour; the multitude caused it to reverberate with “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.” Representatives of every social stratum, kin of freedom fighters, social workers and citizens participated zealously. The PAC Band rendered stirring patriotic melodies, intensifying devotion. Chief Guest Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahli affirmed that liberty exacted total self-abnegation; Special Guest Mahant Divyagiri urged perpetual remembrance of revolutionary sacrifices; Trust President Muralidhar Ahuja counselled celebration of national festivals transcending all distinctions in fraternity and solidarity.
