LONDON: The Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition participated recently in a major international conference highlighting Saudi Arabia’s comprehensive efforts to counter extremist ideology. The event focused on the Kingdom’s programmes in prevention, capacity-building and counterterrorism cooperation. The two-day International Conference on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Efforts to Counter Intellectual Deviations is being hosted by the Islamic University of Madinah from September 27 to 28, according to the Saudi Press Agency. The gathering has brought together scholars, researchers and specialists from Saudi Arabia and several other countries to discuss strategies for addressing ideological extremism.
At an accompanying exhibition, the coalition presented its work across four key areas: countering extremist ideology, strategic communications, disrupting terrorist financing, and military cooperation. An interactive display showcased the coalition’s strategic programmes and initiatives implemented in its member states. These exhibits detailed the objectives of each programme, methods of implementation, and ongoing efforts to build institutional capacity, share expertise and strengthen collective action against terrorism and extremism.
The coalition is also displaying a range of publications, research papers and studies examining terrorism, extremist ideology and practical measures aimed at preventing radicalisation. Organisers noted that the coalition’s participation underscores the importance of converting academic research and specialised knowledge into concrete training programmes and operational initiatives. It also aims to improve coordination among the various institutions working to counter extremism.
Officials from the coalition stated that their presence at the conference reflects a broader commitment to contributing to academic and policy discussions on ideological extremism. By showcasing its initiatives, the coalition seeks to support member states in preventing radicalisation, combating terrorism and expanding cooperation among institutions, researchers and specialists. The conference continues to serve as an important platform for exchanging expertise and reinforcing international collaboration in the fight against extremist ideologies.
