His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik arrived on September 18 in the friendly Republic of Angola on a two-day state visit, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the southern African nation. The visit comes at the official invitation of President João Manuel Lourenço of the Republic of Angola.
His Majesty touched down at Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport in the capital, Luanda, where he was received with full ceremonial honours. Leading the reception was Tete António, Angola’s Minister of External Relations and Head of the mission of honour, accompanied by a number of senior Angolan officials. Upon disembarking, His Majesty shook hands with the welcoming party before proceeding between two rows of the guard of honour, a traditional display of respect and friendship.
An official reception ceremony for His Majesty the Sultan is scheduled for September 19, at the Presidential Palace in Luanda. During the ceremony, His Majesty will hold talks with President João Manuel Lourenço. The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation across political, economic, and investment domains, reflecting the shared desire of both leaderships to deepen mutual understanding and partnership.
His Majesty is accompanied by a high-level official delegation underscoring the importance Oman attaches to this visit. The delegation includes HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs; Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court; General Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nu’amani, Minister of the Royal Office; Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister; Dr. Hamad bin Said Al Aufi, Head of the Private Office; Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority; Anwar bin Hilal Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion; and Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Arab Republic of Egypt and non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Angola.
The presence of key figures from defence, foreign affairs, the royal court, investment, and commerce portfolios signals Oman’s comprehensive approach to the visit. It highlights the Sultanate’s commitment to expanding diplomatic engagement, exploring investment opportunities, and fostering trade relations with African partners.
This state visit represents another chapter in Oman’s active foreign policy under His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, aimed at building bridges of friendship and cooperation with nations across continents. As the official programme unfolds over the next two days, both sides are anticipated to reaffirm their mutual respect and explore avenues for long-term collaboration that serve the interests of their peoples.
