Akhilesh Yadav, National President of the Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party while addressing party workers at the Samajwadi Party state headquarters in Lucknow on May 18. Calling the BJP a “drama-oriented party,” Akhilesh Yadav accused it of spreading negative propaganda and attempting to defame the Samajwadi Party. He alleged that the ruling party has become frustrated and is resorting to undemocratic methods because it has lost the trust of the people.

Confident about the future of his party, Yadav declared that the people of Uttar Pradesh have already decided to bring the Samajwadi Party back to power in the 2027 Assembly elections. The former Chief Minister also accused the BJP government of creating divisions in society and failing to control inflation, unemployment, and corruption. He said the rising prices of diesel, petrol, and cooking gas have badly affected common citizens, while the country’s economy has suffered under the current government.
Referring to development projects initiated during the Samajwadi Party regime, he said cycle tracks built to encourage eco-friendly transport were neglected and destroyed after the BJP came to power. Akhilesh Yadav urged party workers to maintain discipline, patience, and respectful conduct while working among the public. He also warned them against the alleged misuse of social media by political opponents. Highlighting his party’s vision for rural development, Yadav promised that if the Samajwadi Party forms the next government, “Smart Villages” equipped with modern facilities would be developed across the state.
