Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the government of allowing police excesses and failing to control rising inflation, which he said has placed an unbearable burden on the people. Reacting to recent observations made by the Allahabad High Court regarding the functioning of the police in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav said the comments reflected the deteriorating state of law enforcement under the BJP government.
He remarked that when the police themselves become offenders, it signifies a situation comparable to “Kalyug,” where justice and morality are in decline. Akhilesh Yadav said that the High Court’s strong criticism of the police system should compel the government to introspect. According to him, the BJP has lost the moral authority to govern, as principles such as morality, impartiality, honesty, integrity and justice have no place in its political conduct.
He alleged that police actions are increasingly influenced by political considerations rather than constitutional values. The Samajwadi Party chief further claimed that sections of the police force have become instruments of political power, acting in ways that benefit the ruling party instead of protecting the rights of citizens. He asserted that the Constitution would endure, while governments and political parties come and go. He also warned officials against becoming tools of political interests, saying that political circumstances can change but constitutional accountability remains permanent.
Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP government of fostering an environment where injustice and oppression have reached alarming levels. He alleged that ordinary citizens are finding it difficult to obtain justice and that the misuse of power has become widespread. According to him, the government shows little regard for democratic institutions and constitutional norms. Alongside his criticism of law and order, Akhilesh Yadav also targeted the BJP over rising inflation.
He said the recent increase in domestic LPG cylinder prices has further strained household budgets already under pressure from soaring living costs. He pointed out that domestic cooking gas prices have risen significantly over the past few months, while commercial cylinder rates have also increased sharply. According to Akhilesh Yadav, the continued rise in diesel and petrol prices has had a cascading effect on the economy, making transportation, food and essential commodities more expensive.
He accused the BJP of ignoring the concerns of poor and middle-class families while prioritizing the interests of large corporate groups. He said the promises made by the BJP to control inflation have failed to materialize, leading to widespread disappointment among the public. Criticizing both the state and central governments, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that citizens are being burdened through higher utility charges, fuel prices and other expenses.
He also highlighted unemployment, rising agricultural costs and challenges faced by businesses, arguing that people’s incomes are not increasing despite the growing financial pressures. Yadav said the government has become insensitive to the hardships faced by the common people and urged it to address issues of justice, governance and inflation with greater seriousness.
