BY MOHAMMAD TARIQUE SALEEM

The latest missile and drone attacks claimed by Iran against American military facilities in Kuwait represent a deeply troubling escalation that threatens not only regional security but also the sovereignty of one of the Gulf’s most peaceful and responsible nations. Regardless of the intended target, any military action carried out on Kuwaiti soil or within its territory is unacceptable and deserves unequivocal condemnation.

Kuwait has long pursued a foreign policy based on diplomacy, moderation and peaceful coexistence. Throughout decades of regional tensions, the country has consistently acted as a bridge for dialogue rather than conflict. It has earned international respect for its humanitarian initiatives, balanced diplomacy and commitment to regional stability. To drag Kuwait into a conflict that is not of its own making is both unjust and dangerous.

Iran’s decision to target locations in Kuwait, regardless of whether the intended objective was American military infrastructure, undermines international law and violates the sovereignty of an independent Arab nation. No country has the right to use another nation’s territory as a battlefield for settling geopolitical disputes. Such actions only increase instability, endanger innocent civilians and raise the risk of a wider regional confrontation.

The Gulf region has already witnessed enough suffering from wars, political crises and economic uncertainty. Instead of contributing to peace, these attacks create fear among civilians, threaten vital infrastructure and disrupt international trade routes. They also weaken diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in one of the world’s most strategically important regions.

Kuwait has every right to defend its territorial integrity and ensure the safety of everyone living within its borders. The international community should stand firmly with Kuwait in condemning any violation of its sovereignty. Respect for national borders and adherence to international law remain fundamental principles that cannot be compromised, regardless of political disagreements between larger powers.

Iran must recognize that military escalation against neighbouring Gulf states serves no constructive purpose. Retaliatory strikes risk drawing additional countries into the conflict while increasing humanitarian and economic costs for the entire Middle East. Dialogue, diplomacy and respect for sovereign nations remain the only sustainable path toward lasting peace.

At this critical moment, Kuwait’s calm and measured response deserves appreciation. Rather than allowing itself to be provoked into further escalation, Kuwait continues to prioritize the safety of its people while cooperating with international partners to maintain regional security. This responsible approach reflects the country’s longstanding commitment to peace.

The Middle East needs fewer missiles and more diplomacy. Kuwait has consistently demonstrated that peaceful engagement is possible even during periods of extreme tension. Those who violate its sovereignty should be held accountable under international law, while the global community must reaffirm its support for Kuwait’s independence, territorial integrity and right to live free from external aggression.
