The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in New Delhi was bathed in green and white as it hosted a graceful celebration of the Kingdom’s 96th National Day. The occasion commemorated the historic unification of modern Saudi Arabia under the visionary leadership of King Abdulaziz in 1932. Diplomats, senior Indian officials, business leaders, and members of both communities gathered in an atmosphere of warmth, pride, and shared purpose.
His Excellency Ambassador Haytham bin Hassan Al-Malki delivered a thoughtful and heartfelt address. He spoke of the deep historical friendship between Saudi Arabia and India that has flourished for decades. Tracing the journey from traditional commercial and cultural ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, the Ambassador highlighted cooperation in energy, trade, investment, technology, defence, and culture. He underlined how both nations continue to strengthen these bonds under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, in harmony with Saudi Vision 2030.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, representing India, responded with equal warmth. He reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations and the growing strategic partnership between the two countries. Misri specially noted that India had received two prestigious awards from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for excellence in Hajj arrangements. These Labbaytum Awards recognised outstanding coordination and communication during the 2026 pilgrimage season, reflecting the seamless facilitation provided to Indian pilgrims and the high level of mutual trust and cooperation in this sacred domain.
The celebration also reflected the tangible strength of the relationship. Bilateral trade stands at more than USD 40 billion annually, with Saudi Arabia remaining one of India’s most reliable energy partners and a key supplier of crude oil and fertilisers. Both nations rank among each other’s top trading partners. Growing Saudi investments in India, an expanding Indian business presence in the Kingdom, and vibrant people-to-people links further enrich this multifaceted partnership.
Traditional hospitality, and the proud display of national colours created a memorable evening. The reception was more than a ceremonial observance; it was a living affirmation of a friendship rooted in history and oriented firmly toward the future. As both countries pursue ambitious national visions, the 96th National Day celebration in New Delhi reaffirmed a shared commitment to deeper collaboration, mutual prosperity, and regional stability for generations to come.
